The court cards are slippery characters. They represent aspects of a person, not the whole person. Some writers on the tarot try to match court cards and zodiac signs. Others give exact physical descriptions. The tarot cards are living beings. Try to treat them with respect. If you try to force them to fit your ideals, youll meet the Fool instead Eden Gray claimed that wands are always blonds with blue eyes. She also says The Queen of Wands is a woman living in the country. I have a friend who fits the description. She lives in the country and she's a wildcat. The Queen of Wands is usually shown with a cat. An alley cat in the Waite deck and a leopard in the Crowley/Harris deck. Except my friend has brown hair, brown eyes and claims a Negro heritage. Plus her sun sign is Cancer. Wands are supposed to be fire signs. I've read for some groups where I was the only Caucasian. I had plenty of Wands and Swords and Cups and Pentacles. Not a blue-eyed blond in the bunch. The court cards describe people and people have jobs and families. People usually wear at least three hats in life. Most of us have what I call a home card. It describes who we are most of the time. The book descriptions describe temperament. Temperament is constant. Its how we respond to the hat were wearing. Many tarot writers try to match the court cards with the twelve zodiac signs. They have their own ideas about whom and what they are. The people cards dance and do si do and change partners. Dont ask them to waltz when theyd rather do the Mashed Potatoes. The characters in the tarot aren't static they're magick and don't have to obey your rules. They don't like us giving them personality test and slapping labels on them. Often we only see one side of a person. Sometimes a card will be showing you a different aspect of a person. It could be highlighting the person's inner nature . . . It's like getting a view of the dark side of the moon. An example to my friends I'm the King of Cups. When I do readings, I'm the Hierophant. When I was in my late forties, I had a girlfriend in her late twenties. To her I was the King of Pentacles.
